“If and it is an alt-folk band from Maine whose provenance can be traced back to a Portland basement where Evan Parker recorded his first collection of songs, Buffalo Heart, released by Peapod Recordings in 2010. The following year Parker was joined by Chris Dibiasio (drums) and Tim Alan Walker (bass), and the trio took the project from the Spring St. cellar to a cabin in southern New Hampshire to record Ratpig EP, characterized by the USM Free Press as “a shambling, lo-fi folk reminiscent of Isaac Brock‚Äôs earliest Modest Mouse and Ugly Casanova albums.” The band made a habit of commemorating the end of the growing season by returning to the NH chantey each fall for a couple of days to record a cabin EP. With four LPs, three cabin EPs, and scores of unrecorded tracks, if and it’s catalog runs deep and the group has drawn comparisons as a diverse as Palace Music, Neil Young, Silver Jews, and Jonathan Richman. McKay Belk (steel/guitar) joined the group in late 2013, and the foursome have relocated to a South Portland garage for a fifth LP, Asleep in the Forest, due sometime this fall.”
